scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='Why I Would Never Use the Free Proxy Sites in 2009'/>
Why I Would Never Use the Free Proxy Sites in 2009

So what's wrong with using free proxy sites to protect your privacy in 2009? Well there's nothing wrong with the price, free is definitely best but in reality you get what you pay for. It takes money to run a proxy site, bandwidth costs are not cheap and maintaining hosting and a secure proxy server comes at a cost. If you are looking for a free proxy site to remain anonymous and protect your identity this is even more important.

So who Generously Supplies the Free Proxy Sites?

There are a few genuine anonymous proxy servers which can be used for free with great results - they are fast, secure and easy to use. However you will never find these on the free proxy lists you find on web sites floating about the internet. As soon as an anonymous proxy server appears on these lists the support and bandwidth costs explode and any legitimate server will become unusable. These lists (and the reason why they are constantly updated) contain proxies that have generally 'appeared' on the internet - usually as a result of an administrators mistake or it's a hacked server which has had a proxy installed for use by everyone.

This is the reason that new proxy servers appearing on these lists are so prized, initially the servers may run at a respectable speed until half the internet proxy list seekers jump on board and the bandwidth plummets. When the bandwidth limits are reached the proxy server will seeks to work and the embarrassed administrator will usually realise his mistake or the hackers will move on to another target.

There are some rarer but much scarier free proxies that appear on these lists. One other way of financing the high costs of running a free anonymous proxy is to actually make money from these servers.

You may have seen free web based proxies where you type in a URL and they fetch the page back, these normally have adverts or pop-ups to finance them. The more worrying ones look extremely legitimate and are often fast and well run, mainly because they are financed by identity thieves who are sniffing all the data that is passing through. That's probably the most worrying aspect of using free proxies, you are sending ALL your data using a clear text transport mechanism (HTTP) via a server of extremely dubious origins. The security benefits of protecting your IP address from the web servers you visit are minimal anyway but the risks are actually quite large to your identity.

There is no way I would every use one from the free proxy sites in 2009, I personally think you're safer without them - however I do protect my identity online.

To see which software I use to protect my web browsing - you can read about Identity Cloaker here.

Surf safely, protect your privacy,

Jim

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Jim_Rjindael

Free Anonymous Proxy Servers Are a Security Risk

How many lists or websites dedicated to bringing lists of free anonymous proxy servers are there? Do a quick search on Google and you'll find loads of them and have you noticed how these list change or are updated? If you want to know why I suggest you think what exactly is the appeal of an anonymous web proxy server.

The reasoning is quite simple, every web site you visit on the internet will record your IP address in their logs, so technically your entire web surfing history can be traced back to your specific PC and it's associated IP address. Lots of people don't like this and as such the anonymous proxy server can help with this specific problem. If you connect to a web site via a proxy server, your IP address is not left on the web server you visit but only the IP address of the proxy server.

So that's great - I can keep my Surfing Private using an Anonymous Proxy

Well up to a point, you are keeping your surfing private from the web server you are visiting but you may be paying a very high price. The fact is that by using a proxy server you are funnelling absolutely all your data via a single server. On the proxy server you use there will be a full log of absolutely every web site you visit matched up to your IP address, in fact the owner of this server can potentially intercept quite easily every single piece of data from your surfing sessions.

So do you Trust the Administrator of the Free Proxy Server you are using

I'm sure you know all about the administrator of your chosen free anonymous proxy server, after all you are entrusting him with lots of your personal data. Sadly people rarely think of this, the simple allure of 'Free' and 'Anonymous Proxy' seems to offer anonymous browsing at a price we all like. When you combine the facts that many, many of these servers are misconfigured or hacked servers using them becomes utter madness.

Can you Imagine sending all your personal data via a Hacked proxy server controlled by a East European Hacking Group

Because that is simply what lots of people are doing using an anonymous proxy for free if they do not know who controls or administers this server. The vast majority of these servers are insecure or infested with all sorts of malware. Let's be honest who's going to supply unlimited bandwidth and a free proxy server for nothing, I'm afraid we all know that world doesn't quite work that way.

My other problem with anonymous proxies is the fact that people think they have complete privacy when using them. It's completely untrue, the vast majority of your web browsing is conducted in clear text, your IP address and web sites you visit is recorded at your ISP (who must keep the logs according to a European Directive) and in many other places across the internet. There are ways to be completely protected on the internet but they generally cost some money or are extremely slow, if your privacy is important you should decide but please don't use the unknown free anonymous proxy - it's utter madness from a security perspective.

If you want to read about some of my thoughts on using anonymous proxies and how you can surf without being spied on, you need to try Identity Cloaker

Try the new free demo of Identity Cloaker on the link below.

Anonymous Surfing Demo

Jim

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Jim_Rjindael

What Are Proxy Servers?

Proxy Server

A server is defined as a computer program that services requests to other programs on the same computer or for other computers in the network and their users. The Internet is based on the server model, and there are a number of servers connected to the Internet, directing the traffic of the users. Internet servers provide access to the World Wide Web, allow online chats, stream audio/video files and enable online gaming, among many other services. A proxy server is a server that acts as an intermediary between an Internet user and the Internet.

When a user requests a file download, or a web page, the proxy server provides this service by connecting to the server that can fulfill this request and makes the request on behalf of the user. A proxy server that transfers the information without modifying it is called a 'gateway.' Let's look at some of the types of proxy servers and functions that can be performed them:

• Caching server: A caching server makes copies of all the information that has passed through it frequently. If another request is made for the same information, it can be retrieved from the server itself and there is no need to contact a remote server that may have been the source of the information. This is very useful function in large organizations, as it speeds the process of service by creating a database of frequently used resources.

• Content Filtering server: A content filtering server can be set up to prevent access to certain URLs. This is done in large organizations to exercise security and control over the company's resources. It may also be used in schools, libraries, etc. to prevent access to unacceptable websites.

• Firewall server: A firewall server acts as a measure of security from external intrusion into a company's server.

• Anonymizing proxy server: This server provides anonymity to the user as he is surfing the net since the request for URLs come from the IP address of the server and not the user.

• Intercepting proxy server: Not all uses of a proxy server are to our advantage. People with criminal intent can intercept all information passed on to the user.

• Reverse proxy server: A reverse proxy server is set up in conjunction with a number of other proxy servers. It serves as an intermediary between the servers and the internet. The purposes of installing a reverse proxy server include increased security, ability to encrypt data and to manage the load on all the servers in the network.

A proxy which is fully compatible with Myspace is Unblock Myspace. To unblock YouTube, YouTube Proxy is the perfect Proxy.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Jian_Chew

How to Setup your own Proxy Server

Many people complain that webproxys are not working at their workplaces / school computers because they have been banned by administrators. A way around this would be to setup your very own proxy server that is being hosted a) by a free webhosting service that supports either php or cgi or b) your own website that is being hosted by a webhosting company.

Both methods should work and I will walk you right through the installation process for both scripts and give you tips how to find out what is actually being blocked. Before we start you need to download a copy of phpproxy or cgiproxy depending on what you want and can use. You also could perform a search for free webhosting on google for instance and try to find a webhoster that supports one of the two languages, a good site that I found while searching for those terms might be freewebspace.net

1. phpproxy

Download phpproxy and unpack it to a local directory on your hard drive. All you need to do know is to upload the script to your webspace and open up the new url to check if its working allright. You might want to rename the file to something different, something that does not contain the word proxy in it to avoid filters that ban everything that has the word “proxy” in it.

You could open up the script and enter your clients ip in there to make sure that only your client will be able to connect or you could add a .htaccess file to the directory forcing everyone who wants to start the script to enter a username and password. Again, use google if you like to find out more information about .htaccess

The php script has some requirements, make sure you read the readme file which is included and check to see if your hoster has those requirements enabled.

2. cgiproxy

Your hoster has to have cgi enabled in order to run this script. Many free hosters do not offer cgi or only some preinstalled scripts. Make sure it is enabled before you start the installation process.

First, download the source and unpack it to a local directory.

Now, open the .cgi file and take a look at the configuration. You can edit lots of settings from within, for example you could configure the script that way that it only allows text to go through the proxy but no images. Everything is explained in detail and all options are explained with comments, browse through the file, edit the options to your liking and save the new file.

After that upload the script to your cgi directory if that is required by your hoster and open the url from your browser. You are now ready to browse the web anonymously, to check if that is really the case load a website like whatismyip.com as the first site and check if the ip matches with the server the script is installed and not your computers ip. The proxy server intercepts requests to real servers to see if it can take care of the requests itself and, if it cannot, it forwards the request to the real server.

For example, a user requests a web page via his browser. The proxy server first checks the cache to see if the page is already there and can be served to the usually. If not, it passes the request for the web page from the browser to the web server.

Since proxy servers provide indirect access to web servers, your IP address and other somewhat identifying information (e.g. browser type, location) can be kept passed onto the real server. A proxy server used specifically to remove identifying information from the client's requests for the purpose of of anonymity is called an anonymous proxy server. There are a number of anonymizer services available on the Internet today. Some of these are free, but most of the better and more reliable services will cost you.

It may be that masking your IP address may be all you feel you need. However, it is possible to be even more anonymous using proxy servers.

For example, chaining proxy servers can offer a higher degree of separation between you and the end server, making it harder for people on the server to track you down. Of course, as each hop gets closer to you, more information can be used to trace you.

Encrypting your data right from the start also offers much higher degree of protection. While a proxy server may very well encrypt the data once it receives it and before passing it on, a proxy server receiving unencrypted data leaves that data vulnerable. Most free anonymous proxy servers do not encrypt data. You will need to pay for this type of service and it may very well be worth it to you.

Also be wary of proxy servers that you discover randomly. Some are deliberately set up as open proxy servers to trick people into using them...then stealing confidential data as it passes through, including unencrypted user names and passwords. If you want to use an anonymizer, make sure you use a well known service with a posted privacy policy and only after you have checked online as to the service's integrity.

Finally, do not assume that using a proxy server will completely protect your privacy online. It w will not. If someone wants to badly enough, they can trace you and your activity. Just keep in mind that this will help safeguard you to a certain point.

It is also important to remember that using proxy servers do nothing to protect you from someone who has direct access to your computer from snooping on your activities. In this case, you will need to take safeguard actions like clearing and deleting cookies, cache and web search history from your web browser and toolbars.

The Privacy Software Review Center provides the most complete set of privacy articles and software reviews on the Internet. With topics ranging from how to delete search history to How to Surf Anonymously, the Privacy Software Review Center has your privacy covered.

If you are interested in Anonymous IP software, it will be worth your while to spend a few minutes reviewing the products listed at http://privacysoftware.biz/privacy-software-reviews right now!

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Adrian_Brooks

All About Proxy Server Lists

A proxy server list is very easy to find these days on the Web. The growing number of people who are availing of these services have led to a surge in the number of websites offering such inventories.

However, not all of them can be relied upon. If you are looking for some proxies to use, you need to pay attention to that catalog of servers before you. You cannot just go on clicking every link shown; that will just take too much time. Instead you should try and focus on the website itself; this will help you determine just how reliable the links provided are.

The reason this is important is because some proxy server lists on websites have been put there for commercial or promotional purposes. That is, the website will get paid if you click the links, as it is in some way affiliated with the server. Fortunately you can detect this; if the site for example, tends to be overly positive about the links, or claim that they are all the very best, you should cast your doubts. This would be even more suspicious if the links are not found in other websites.

Once you have spent some time reviewing and researching the subject on the Net, you will eventually find it much easier to discern between an objective online proxy server list from the promotional one. If this is your first time to check, you should look for a balanced commentary, as well as detailed stats (how long it takes to connect to the site, for example).

Once you have bookmarked the site, be sure to check it for updates. The URL you are using may be working now, but do not be surprised if you find it hard to access some time later. If the website provides fresh info, then you should have no problem looking for and using other links. A good site should also offer some basic info on how the process works; it will help you decide what to use too.

A proxy server list is one of the most important tools that anyone who wishes to surf the Web anonymously should have. It is a convenient way of getting the links you need, minus the hassle of going to a search engine repeatedly. With a reliable and well maintained record in hand, surfing the Web in private will be a reality.

Peter Garant has written many articles about Proxies for a recently launched website about School Proxy servers.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Peter_Garant

Proxy Sites Offer Access to Blocked Web Sites

Are you looking for a way to gain access that you need on your network to web sites that are being blocked by your proxy servers? If you are in need of accessing information that is currently being blocked on your network, you can have the option of going to a proxy site. Proxy sites allow you to gain access that you need to web sites that have content that is being blocked by the security settings on your network.

Why do some proxy settings prevent access to certain web sites? One of the most common reasons is that companies do not want all of the users on their network to have access to certain information and certain content on web sites. If they do not create separate groups of users, that have different levels of access, than all of the users will have the limited access. The security settings are in place so that it is not as easy for unauthorized users to have access to the information on the server. Unfortunately, when these settings are set up, they also can block useful web sites.

Because of the increased risk with using other proxy sites, you want to make sure that you are familiar with them. You can find a lot of good information and advice list on the Internet. You will be able to learn all that you need to know about setting up your own proxy addresses and how to set up users on your network that will be able to use them. On some sites, you can also ask any questions that you have and read other questions and answers for a lot of technical information.

There are various ways that you can find proxy addresses to use to bypass your own, but you want to make sure that they are safe and secure, and are not going to put your computer and information at risk. Proxy sites are designed to allow users to have access to web sites that they are not able to access on the network. Some networks have settings that are very secure, and even block some popular web sites that you would normally be able to access that you can not when you are using that network.

Be sure that you are always checking to see that your security settings are still at a level that will help keep your computer and your network secure. If you do not know how to gain access to proxy sites, or how to change the settings on your network, find the administrator who can direct you in how to bypass the proxy settings and still have the security that you need in place. It is advisable that you should rethink over possessing administrator rights to change the Proxy settings, as this will expose your personal information to others view. Instead, it is better to get hold of the administrator and take his help to bypass the proxy settings. You can then access sites you desire, while your privacy remains secure.

Want to find and use a reliable proxy server? However, there are many different types out there, and you need to utilize the right one or you will just end up feeling frustrated.

If this is your first time to use this service, you might have gone to a search engine and clicked the first one you saw. Of course, the pages that appear there are very popular and being used by a lot of people, leaving little doubt that they are legitimate. However, their popularity may mean the page will take a long time to download because of the heavy traffic.

You can expect this if the website you are visiting has plenty of visitors. This is not always the case of course, and it will also depend on how well the site is designed or the type of server that hosts it.

In other instances the problem will come when you try to connect to the servers mentioned. Any number of reasons can account for this: the site may just be busy, or the problem may be with your own dial up or broadband connection. You should check it out too. If you have installed any software or application connected with accessing the Net, it might also cause problems so be sure to evaluate it first. Just as installing multiple antivirus applications can wreak havoc on a computer, so too can multiple proxy programs.

If you are sure that the problem is not inherent in your browser, then the link from the proxy server lists you are accessing may simply be too full. Just as traffic on a website can cause it slow down, the same thing can happen with these services. The next best thing to do of course would be to try out the other ones mentioned. Whenever possible, you should try out the other sites; there is no point sticking to one if the links they provide never work.

If you are among those that require or just want to use the Web without having to be concerned about someone monitoring your activities or the pages you are looking at, then the value of these proxy server lists becomes more apparent. There is no shortage to choose from; all it takes is a little bit of patience, and you will get a connection to work for you.

Peter Garant has written many articles about New Proxies for a recently launched website about Internet Proxies.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Peter_Garant

Where to Get Fast Proxy Servers

Finding the servers on the World Wide Web is easy enough to these days, but getting a fast proxy server is another story. With the multitudes out there, how can you tell which one is efficient and which are the ones to avoid?

Due to the popularity of the service in general, it can be hard to find one. You can spend a good deal of time looking for these on the Net, and when you do find one, realize to your dismay that you cannot connect, and that even if you do, the page simply takes too long to download, wasting your time and computer resources. However, that is no reason to give up; there are certain processes you can do to find a fast proxy server.

The best solution would be to go to websites that specifically focus on these issues. This does not refer to any server in particular, but rather an online page that specializes in listing down servers that are most reliable. You can start by going to your favorite search engine and looking for general information about the subject. You will come across not just that, but also pages containing a list of popular servers.

Once you find one, you should read some of the statistics or comments there. It will usually state if it breaks down often, too slow, too many users are there, if it is a fast proxy server, robust and reliable. You will definitely want to try out the ones that are near the top. But be patient, because the others will probably be trying to log in there too. However, once you do get to log in, usually the browsing process will be good. If not, you can try the next one in the list.

A factor that you will also want to consider will be the type of software that you are using. If it is buggy, it might affect the way that it interacts with the server and slow things down considerably. Make sure that you have programmed it right so that you will get the maximum performance out of it.

Finding fast proxy servers requires patience too. In some cases you just have to wait a while before you can get in. However, by always keeping an eye on websites that provide updated lists, it will only be a matter of time before you can connect and browse the Net.

Peter Garant has written many articles about Internet Proxy servers for a recently launched website about Proxys.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Peter_Garant

Proxy Servers For Online Security

How do you keep out the burgeoning viruses and Trojan horses, prowling in the cyberspace? There is any number of programs like spam, adware, spyware, malware and hackers ready to attack at the earliest opportunity. Without the knowledge of internet users, credit card numbers or passwords can pass onto the wrong hands. These security problems need to be addressed urgently and here are two important tips for you.

1. The first step to protect your computer is to install a good virus scanner and firewall. Let's face the facts, Microsoft's firewall is just not sufficient, and so are from your ISP and modems. No modem comes with built in antivirus software. Thus you have to buy and install one. You can choose from a number of virus scanners and firewalls, but trustworthy among them are: Norton, AVG, McAfee, and ZoneAlarm. AVG and ZoneAlarm are free software.

2. A proxy server helps online security. This server hides your IP, which is unique and unchangeable even if you want to. This IP identity should be kept secret. If a cybercriminal accesses it, he can get your data, and use it to your detriment.

In this whole process a proxy works discreetly. When you try to access a link, the browser informs the server in normal circumstances, while a proxy server ensures that it gets this information first, and filters the information. Even if the web server tries to know your IP, it will only be accessing the IP of the proxy server. However, the proxy server can access all your data, and therefore you should go for a proxy server which you can rely upon.

Since Proxy Servers help Online Security., you should know how to set up one. Faulty setup can lead to an unsafe proxy - hence carefully follow the various steps.

1. A good and anonymous proxy is a must. The Web has a whole lot of paid and free proxy servers. While paid proxies provide better anonymity, free proxies can also be opted. You should zero in on a good Proxy Server which will help your Online Security.

2. After you have chosen your proxy, you need to configure your Internet browser to use it. This process is different from one to another browser. If you are using Internet Explorer, here's how to install the proxy. Open Internet Explorer, go to Internet connection, click on connection, select the appropriate button for LAN or dial-up connection, and click the settings. Enable use a proxy server, and type IP of proxy - which you should have noted on a paper, before beginning to install, followed by port in the respective fields. When you click on "OK" twice, you are now having a Proxy Server for Online Security.

3. It is not enough even after you have finished configuring your browser. You just cannot forget it. If you have opted for a free Proxy, it might not be working after some time. Therefore, you should keep an eye on the proxy, and stay secure. Use Proxy Servers for Online Security and it will relieve you of lot of worries.

Want to find and use a reliable proxy server? Most common usage of free proxy server is to bypass the college/office or any other place's security restrictions and access unrestricted sites. But proxy servers should be used with caution. If used without safety measures, it can result in big loss as compared to advantage of browsing the web anonymously. There are two ways through which you can hide your identity (your IP address) when surfing the internet. First and the most inexpensive way is to use free proxy server. There are many windows and linux proxy websites available on the internet which lets you use their services free of charge. The other option for hiding your identity is to use paid software. The IP hiding software, changes your IP address continuously to let you browse internet anonymously.

There are few important things you need to keep in mind when using free proxy servers.

1.) Watch out for your security

Do not give out any sensitive information such as your login details or credit card information when using different proxy servers because when you use free proxy server, all the information you provide on any website is first sent to free proxy server and then to the site server. So all the information go through the free proxy server and most of the time it is unencrypted, exposing your sensitive information for potential misuse.

Paid software are much better in terms of security. There systems are designed to conceal your IP and then discard all your information without any human involvement.

2.) Stability and Availability

There are many free proxy server sites but most of them are not stable and are not available every time you visit them. This problem is not very significant with paid software.

3.) Speed of Browsing

When you use any proxy server for hiding your IP, you can feel the slow speed of browsing instantaneously. Though there are good sites available for anonymous browsing but they are very difficult to find. Also, speed is not consistent; it depends largely on load on their servers. At times you do get good browsing speed but it's not consistent. Again, paid software for hiding IP are much better at browsing speed. As they charge for their services, they ensure that the user experience is better and you do not get slow speed while browsing the internet through their software.

They are also great when you find a quality one that masks your country of origin. When looking for a Online Proxy make sure it has Java installed so you can watch movies. As you can sometimes have your country of origin cloaked but if java does not work it is not much use.

Remember be safe when looking for Free Proxy Software. As they say better safe than sorry. To see other great information and Top links check out my informational website called Free Proxy Servers I hope it helps.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Stephen_Alan_Martin

Facts About High Anonymity Proxy Servers

Those who have been surfing the Internet for some time will know what a high anonymity proxy server is. For those who are not familiar, here are the basic facts.

It is in many ways similar to the usual type, except in two aspects. Number one, the IP address of the computer you are using is not transferred, unlike the other variants. With the usual servers, the IP address is transferred but kept away from the firewall, making it appear to the firewall that no breach has been committed.

With this step in place, the user can begin to browse and download files. This is generally a very secure environment. However, the high anonymity proxy server takes it one step further. No IP address is passed, making it even more safe.

Another reason why this type of server is very protected is the fact that knowledge of your usage of it is kept confidential. So not only are you hidden behind it, but the fact that you are using such a utility is kept totally confidential. That is the reason why this is very popular among users who want to surf the Net securely and with as much anonymity as possible.

In addition there are other options and services that you can do; aside from browsing Web pages, you can also check your Web based email using this. You may also go chatting or download files from FTP sites utilizing this technique.

A high anonymity proxy server is used in much the same way you would an ordinary variant; that is, linking to the site and logging in. They are easy to determine as a note will indicate if it is a high anonymity type or not. You can look for it specifically in a search engine but a lot of times, even the online pages that list the "ordinary" servers include this in their listing.

For some of the more casual users, this may not seem necessary at all. However, the fact is that a lot of the information you enter into a site can get into the vendors who will spam your email with various offers. You also become susceptible to hackers.

A high anonymity proxy server can be an essential tool to shield your privacy. With this application, you can go around the Web assured that no type of data concerning you or your activities online will be relayed to anyone or any group.

Peter Garant has written many articles about Proxy Sites for a recently launched website about Proxies.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Peter_Garant

Unblock Social Websites With Web Proxies

We've all experienced it. You're bored at school or at work, and just want to take a quick peek at our FaceBook page, or watch a quick video or two on YouTube... only to find that those sites have been blocked by your administration or employer. It's frustrating. It's a little insulting. And there are ways around it.

Two, in fact. The first way is fairly simple: use a different browser. Many computer networks use Windows and Internet Explorer, so the network administrators only block sites for Internet Explorer. Perhaps you've got a particularly clever (or bored) network admin who blocks Firefox too and Safari for the Macintosh users. But there's always a chance that by simply using a different browser, you can access your favorite social networking sites. There are literally dozens of alternative browsers out there (Netscape, Opera, Avant, and Google Chrome, to name just a very few) that you can download from software sites like Download.com or Softpedia.com free.

On the other hand, schools and workplaces lock down their computers so tightly these days that the average user isn't allowed to install new software. You're not out of luck quite yet... when they installed Windows on this computer, did they leave MSN Explorer on it? If so, give that a try. If not... well, there's always proxy servers.

Which brings us to the second way around a blocked website: proxy servers. A "proxy server" is basically a website that displays another website. So... how exactly does that help you? Well, when you type a web address (URL) into your browser at school or work, the network checks the address entered against a list of banned URLs, such as www.facebook.com. However, the URL of the proxy server website is probably not blocked, so the network lets the traffic through. The proxy server simply acts as a transfer point. Your school computer isn't going to Facebook. Your computer is going to another computer that is going to Facebook!

So where do you find a proxy server? Anywhere. There are literally hundreds of them across the globe. Just type "proxy server" or "web proxy" into Google and take your pick. There are even entire websites devoted to maintaining lists of proxy servers. Actually, if you can find one of those sites, use it. Here's why: network administrators aren't stupid. Proxy servers eat up a lot of system resources and bandwidth, and network admins notice such things. When you use the same proxy server day in and day out, they'll eventually notice all the traffic going to that website, take a look, realize it's a proxy server, and block that web site, too. To avoid this, use a different proxy server each time-or at the very least, a different one each day. Websites that maintain lists of hundreds of proxy servers are ideal for this. Some even have a button you can click to choose a proxy server at random. That'll keep the network admins guessing!

I'll leave you with a little trivia on the nobler side of proxy servers. Although it's easy think of them as sleazy, sneaky little things that allow you to misbehave and waste your company's time, but they actually serve a very important purpose. There are many countries in the world, such as China, that try to limit the information their citizens can access by maintaining huge lists of banned URLs. Proxy servers sidestep this and let the people find out what's really going. Sure, such nations try to block the proxy servers, too, but they're always one step behind. When anyone can set up a proxy server in their garage, a dozen new proxy servers can (and do) pop up every day-and repressive governments will never be able to keep up with them all.

Andrew Green is part of the team behind A-Z Proxies, an attempt to list from A to Z every active web proxy. Andy has been actively working in the web proxy field since 2005 and has built up a wealth of knowledge on the subject.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Andrew_J_Green

Bypass your School and Work Filters with an Anonymous Proxy Server

With the proliferation of the Internet, many websites promote themselves by sending you spam junk mails, advertisings and even embed spyware that is difficult to remove onto your computer. These things not only keep track of your personal information, but also enable hackers and crackers to infiltrate your system. Anonymous proxy servers act as a wall between your data and the Internet, whereby providing security to your system and data. There are however, other reasons to use an anonymous proxy server.

If your work or school has any type of filtering in place to prevent people from visiting certain websites, an anonymous proxy server is a great way to get around such restrictions. Anonymous proxy servers work by acting as a "middle man"; they download the requested pages to their proxy server and in turn you download the page, all images and other such objects from the proxy server to your browser, thus bypassing any filters or annoying firewalls. Not only is this a viable alternative for students to bypass their school's filter to access such popular student sites such as Myspace or Xanga but can be used if your workplace has strict limitations on which websites you can access. Most anonymous proxy bypass servers use one of two program, PHProxy or CGIProxy, both of which are excellent proxy software packages.

After you have discovered the benefits of using anonymous proxy servers, you will probably want to try it out. There are numerous free proxy services out there, one of the most popular is SpySurfing ( http://www.spysurfing.com/ ) and is a really fast proxy server that is popular among both students look to bypass their school filters and adults looking to bypass their work place firewalls.

Steve Avery, http://www.spysurfing.com

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Stephen_Avery

Can You Use a Secure Proxy Server to Improve Your Security?

One way to protect your self online when surfing the internet is by using a secure proxy server. But just picking any proxy to use is not advisable, as you might pick one that is not secure and instead of your surfing being anonymous your information might just be being sent somewhere else, which can make this a bad situation for you. More and more the world and especially the internet are full of people who are waiting to steal your identity. These internet pirates are not just a single person, but they are an entire huge team that has tons of resources and they realize the huge gains that can be gotten, with very limited risks of getting caught for electronic fraud and theft.

Sad but true, the risks for these thieves are so minimal compared to any conventional crime and even lessens when they set themselves up in a country with lax internet laws and with a government that cannot police the situation. As the internet continues to grow by leaps and bounds, the rewards for these identity thieves will continue to grow as well.

One of the basic and most important issue while surfing the web is that most information is transferred in easily readable format, called ascii text. So basically all information that leaves your computer and travels across the internet can be instantly intercepted and read by anyone who chooses to do so. One place that all internet information is intercepted is your ISP, who logs everything everyone does online, along with many other places. So to keep what you do online private many people will use a free anonymous proxy. What this means to you as a user of the internet is that these internet pirates can either buy, rent or even hack into a server and then install their own proxy server and then put them on the internet, advertising them as free secure proxy servers for the general public to use.

Each and every day thousands of people use these proxies and unknowing to them all their data is being intercepted and read. With a server configured to cache mode and enabling software these internet pirates can record everything ... your usernames, account logins and passwords, your credit card details, social security number, you name it and they have your information. So they not only give you what you think will protect you, but they are providing themselves with a way to steal all your information in the name of anonymity!

You have probably heard the saying ... "there is no such thing as a free lunch", well that holds true with free proxies as well. The cost to run a free proxy server is very expensive, so why would they want to give them away free to the public? The answer here is pretty simple, it is one of two reasons ... #1 being that someone, more than likely a company did not close all the ports to their proxy server or ... #2 it has been done by someone on purpose to create a trap to steal peoples data

You want to be extremely careful when choosing to use a secure proxy server and that it is from a reputable company that runs a secure professional server. Not a free service that could very well be run by a team of Eastern European hackers, with only one motive in mind.

Personally I would not know how to find out whether a reputable company is running a proxy server or if it was hackers, but there is a very good privacy software out on the market now that will allow you to surf and buy safely online. Your ISP keeps logs of your MAC address (your network adapter card's number) and your private IP address; the rest of cyberspace sees your public IP address assigned by your ISP. Yes, no matter what you do and where you go, your computer trail leads right to your doorstep. Scary thought? Disturbing? No doubt.

How Your IP Address Invades Your Privacy

Whether or not you're engaged in illegal or immoral activity, there's reason to be worried about this lack of privacy on the Internet. Even people who do nothing strictly unlawful deserve privacy. You may be sending an anonymous mail, or having an illicit affair, or visiting websites that your family and friends would be offended by. You may have moved away and parted with friends and just want to check on their blogs without being identified. Perhaps you share an e-mail account with another person and you want to answer mail for them without giving away the fact you are someone/somewhere else. There are all kinds of reasons why being anonymous is important, and they are not all illegal.

Unfortunately, you can't be anonymous without a proxy server that hides your tracks for you. The websites, forums and web mail services you use all log your visits. Even social networking sites do. If you use your office's network, the administrator keeps records of who uses it and when. Your public IP address may be changeable and have limited details only, but whoever gets past that and sees your private IP address (behind your ISP router) and worse, your Mac address, will be able to identify you.

This lack of anonymity not only affects your privacy; it can also be a security threat. Through such details about your computer, it's possible for a hacker to build a profile of you and gather such critical info as usernames, passwords, phone numbers and credit card numbers.

How to Hide Your IP Address with Proxy Servers

An anonymous proxy server can protect you from such tracking. There are two kinds of annoymizing proxies. Disguised proxy and elite proxy. A disguised proxy is identifiable as a proxy server by the website you visit, but it still hides your real IP. An elite proxy is cleverly masked to look like a genuine IP address, and it also hides your original IP. The elite proxy is better because it makes you less "suspicious."

How to Use a Proxy Server with Internet Explorer

First go to Internet Options - Connections - LAN Settings

In the Proxy Server area, check on "Use proxy server for LAN" box.

Enter the proxy server in the address field. Enter the port number also in the port box.

Click OK to close LAN box and Internet Options box. You're ready to surf anonymously!

Peter Garant has written many articles about Proxy Sites for a recently launched website about Surf Proxies.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Peter_Garant

Windows Proxy Server

Windows Proxy Server is an application that acts as a medium and intermediate machine between a regular terminal computer of a local area and the World Wide Web. The servers used for the web are usually HTTP proxy servers, or as they are mostly known Online Proxy Servers. In general, depending on the needs and requirements, there can be many different types of servers for all application protocols.

A Windows Proxy Server features particular operating principles, which are quite simple to understand even if you are not a savvy internet person. The proxy is a server that acts as a medium for applications, making requests online in their stead. Therefore, when users connect to the World Wide Web using client applications, these applications connect to the proxies first and then give them their requests. The proxies then are supposed to connect to the server which the applications want to connect to and then they send the requests to the server. Once the proxies receive the reply from the server, they send it to the application clients and the user is finally connected to the webpage he wants. Of course all this Proxy anonymity process may sound complicated, but practically lasts for a few seconds. These few seconds have raised some controversy though, as there are many people who believe that proxies are slow. However, they are the most effective and efficient means of anonymous surfing available today.

Using protocols such as TCP/IP in a local area network, the role played by the proxies are is actually taken over by routers and gateways, but the proxies are not useless; on the contrary, they have some other features that make them very useful and practical. Caching is one of them; most Windows proxy servers have caches, standing for the option to keep some popular websites in memory for a long time, in order to facilitate and accelerate visits. A user that has access to a Proxy Servers List can cache information through a proxy called cache-proxy server.

Internet connections can be facilitated and encrypted with the use of a well appointed, fast and effective Windows Proxy Server.

If you would like to find out more about a Windows Proxy Server and where to find the Top 4 Recommended services have a look at Free Windows Proxy Software

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Stephen_Alan_Martin

Hide IP Address Behind Free Proxy Server

Every computer has a unique identity which it uses to communicate with other computers and electronic devices on the world wide web. When ever you surf the internet your IP address which is also known your computer identity is tracked by the server which is exchanging information with you. An IP address is a 32 bits numeric address written as four numbers separated by periods.

Some people don`t want their online activity to be tracked and they use various softwares, tools and methods to hide their identity. The methods and tools which are used by the people to hide their internet protocol address are both paid and free.

One of the method with the help of which you can hide address of your computer is using a free proxy server. If you are using a proxy server to hide your internet protocol address then the person who will try to track your address will find the identity of the proxy server.

Many internet surfers use proxy servers for privacy and safety but these servers have their traffic and bandwidth limits. Sometimes the information you are exchanging online is too big to be handled by a proxy server.

A firefox extension called switch proxy is used to change the internet protocol address at regular intervals of times. If you really want to increase your privacy and security online then using a free server to hide your identity is a good idea. Internet is a good source of information but not always safe.

If you want to hide your internet protocol address then feel free to visit Proxy Server and Proxy List.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Jitesh_Arora

Overcoming Firewalls With a Proxy Server

Often, the computer that runs in a corporate setting or university will have limited access to the Internet, thanks to the blocking software installed. However, with a proxy server, you can navigate around this difficulty.

Quite often, the blocking or filtering software that will be used by the company will be the firewall. This usually consists of software (and sometimes hardware too), whose purpose is to detect the sites that the computer accesses on the Net. This is done through tracing of the IP address of the user's PC. Aside from tracking though, others will have blocking capabilities built in.

This can make it very, very difficult if not impossible to go to these banned sites without getting caught or causing the system to crash altogether. A proxy server, however, can go around this easily.

There are a lot of these available on the Internet, but the real key to using them is an understanding of just what is going on. In simple terms, the server will cloak the user's computer so that every time a blocked or banned site is accessed, the IP address, which is always requested by the host site and is detected by the firewall, is not shown and instead, the IP address of the server is used.

This is how the user evades detection from the filtering software. In other words, the proxy server will act like a filter itself.

All the information, files, pictures, etc that the user views on the banned website will be transmitted through the server, and then rerouted to the user. Even though the process may be complicated, the bottom line is that any trace of the user, from the IP address to cookies, will be removed and deleted.

Without this information, there is no way that the blocking software will know that a banned site has been accessed. The only way is if the software you use has a log. If there is, you should clear it. But most do not use them.

To find a proxy server, one can do a simple search on the Internet. There will be several sites shown. As much as possible you will want to pick one that is nearest your country so that access and connections will be quicker.

Once you have gotten used to this, you may want to check out the various types of software that you can download. These help modification and use of the servers much easier. Even though they may seem a little difficult at first to use, the truth is that it will only take a little bit of getting used to.

There is no reason why you should put up with the hassle of trying to access a blocked site. With the proxy server, you can overcome that firewall and check out your favorite Web pages with ease.

Peter Garant has written many articles about Proxies for a recently launched website about New Proxies.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Peter_Garant

Why Use a Public Proxy Server?

Some people do not even know there is such a thing as a public proxy server, but they are actually important and used properly can help you with your Internet connection and the way you browse the Web.

One of the main benefits of using this service is that it makes for the transfer and retrieval of commonly accessed files much more quickly. Think of the Internet browser that you are using. It has a folder there that stores your most recently downloaded files, and when you disconnect from the server or hit the back button, the page will be displayed much faster. The reason is that the files in the folder are displayed instead. If you go through the same stuff over and over, this will be a boost and lessen the waiting time.

The public proxy server does the same thing. When you download a file its contents are stored in the server, so when you need to look at it again, retrieval will be much easier. This is another reason why a lot of companies that are on networks make use of this connection or something similar to it. However this will have an opposite effect if the link between your computer and the server is slow.

Another major benefit is that it protects your privacy when you are online. Anyone who has been using the Internet for a while will realize that there are numerous cookies, scripts and other programs that websites use to track your IP address, the pages you visit and also the items you click on. A public proxy server will eradicate this info, so the spammers will have nothing to work with. The same thing can be said with potential hackers.

If you visit websites dedicated to the use this utility, you will also realize that this is the device that is used by people to overcome the restrictions that are presented by the existence of a firewall. A firewall is a piece of software that is installed in the computer so that access to websites are limited and restricted to the ones preferred by the administrator.

These are just some of the reasons why you will want to try this service. It provides you with increased security, anonymity, speed and best of all most of them are free. With technology evolving and getting faster and more integrated, expect the public proxy server to get better and more proficient down the line.

Peter Garant has written many articles about Internet Proxies for a recently launched website about Proxies.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Peter_Garant

Why Use an Anonymous Proxy Server?

An anonymous proxy is a computer program designed to hide your identity when browsing the Internet. The program runs from a third party server and handles data exchange between you and the servers you want to access, such as websites, web mail, and chat rooms. With an anonymous proxy, you never deal directly with the places you visit; you send and receive data via the proxy. It is "anonymous" because it hides information about you such as your IP address and geographic location. In addition to this, an anonymous proxy can protect you from spyware and tracking devices such cookies, pop-ups and malicious scripts.

Why use an anonymous proxy server? There are a number of benefits to using one, namely:

- Ability to bypass network restrictions
- Increased privacy
- Faster browsing

Suppose you use a computer in school or work. The local area network has banned a website that you want to access. Or you may be trying to access a site that forbids visitors from your country. If you have ever wondered how to bypass network restrictions, an anonymous proxy is the answer. Because your IP address is either changed or hidden, the site doesn't recognize you for who/where you really are and you gain free access. Note however that willfully circumventing network or website restrictions may be illegal. If you want to use a proxy just to access banned sites, ask yourself if it's really worth the risk.

Anonymous proxies may also be used to surf anonymously. Do you want to cover your tracks, hide your surfing interests and/or not be recognized by a web admin? An anonymous proxy will let you do just that. No one will know your IP address, returning visits, browser type or country of origin.

Finally, you can accelerate web browsing using a proxy server. Proxies often cache pages and files that other users have requested before you. If you send a request and the proxy finds it's already there in the cache, it will display it instantly.

An anonymous proxy can also be used for malicious reasons. The server owner could be a hacker or spammer who retrieves e-mail passwords, account numbers and other sensitive data. It is important to find an anonymizer that enables secure connections so you can encrypt your data during transit.

Sometimes knowing how to bypass network restrictions and surf unseen can be a bad thing. Anonymous proxies can be used to harass or stalk people online. If you get e-mail messages and discover from the headers that the sender is using an anonymous server, contact the server owner and the authorities to report the incident. Never reply to the spammer or stalker.

For best and safest results, it is highly advisable that you use only a trusted proxy server with a clean track record. It may cost you a little unlike free proxies, but then again is there a price for your privacy and security?

Peter Garant has written many articles about Proxy server software for a recently launched website about Proxy Websites.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Peter_Garant

Finding and Using a Fast Proxy Server

Practically every website you go to will claim that they have a fast proxy server, but if you try it you will see that the service is not only slow, but connecting can be difficult and at times even impossible. To avoid falling into this trap, you should assess these sites more carefully.

It must be pointed out however, that the speed at which you can download files, pictures and videos on the World Wide Web will be most dependent on the type of connection that you are using to access the Net. Meaning, a server that uses a broadband connection will always be faster than one relying on a dial up modem. This is a factor that needs to be mulled over. If you want faster connections, an upgrade might be necessary.

A fast proxy server however, can make a difference once the connection issues have been considered. We are not just referring to the time you connect (that is of course also important) but also the speed at which the page loads the images, plays the videos, etc. For some the best option would be to go for the pay sites. Some may not yet realize that there are now sites which will charge you a fixed amount every month to use their servers.

Because you will be paying money, you can expect to get fast service, and in a lot of cases they are. For some it is worth the price, but if you are going to avail of this type of fast proxy server, you should do some price comparison first; you might get some faster servers at a lower cost.

However, for those who do not want to pay a fee, there are other options. The ever changing technology is making it easier to set up these servers for use. This can be seen by the number of online pages that offer hourly or even updates every 15 minutes or so. This feature is particularly important because you do not want to spend your time trying to connect to a site that is already full or has disappeared.

Trying to find a fast proxy server on the Web to help you surf anonymously need not be like the lottery, wherein you have to get lucky just to get the results you want. If you are willing to spend money or just study the various websites out there, connecting to that quick one will only be a matter of time.

Peter Garant has written many articles about School Proxy servers for a recently launched website about Proxy Sites.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Peter_Garant

Online Security - IP Hider Vs Proxy Server

You've probably heard the term before. Anonymous surfing is the act of browsing the Internet wihtout revealing your identity to the rest of the online population. That means you are practically unknown in the eyes of the websites you're visiting. This can be made possible by a server that acts as middleman between you and the site you're viewing. With anonymous surfing, your online activities are identified with the IP address or unique network identifier of the middleman server you're using and not your own. Thus, you are able to preserve your privacy.

If you think surfing with your identity hidden only works to protect the privacy of your online activities, you're wrong. Anonymous surfing is actually a way for your to prevent online companies or hackers from spying on your information. This anonymity is especially beneficial for corporate, educational and government institutions that keep a lot of confidential information in their databases.

While the idea of having a proxy server sounds perfect in maintaining confidentiality of your files, it may not be fool-proof as a security tool. This is because data that leaves a user's computer can still travel the Internet unencrypted. Banking information, for example, could be stolen by a proxy server administrator himself. This becomes particularly dangerous for the user who just might become too confident about his claimed anonymity without realizing the real risks to which his information is exposed.

When things come down to this, real problems begin. The worst scenario is, of course, the administrator stealing the information he is supposed to protect with his proxy website. Proxy servers are, therefore, not very reliable in terms of security, whether from the server's administrator or the Internet as a whole.

The situation is not helpless, though. It is still possible for an Internet user to preserve his identity and online activities and that is by the use of an IP hider software which is a program designed to keep a user's IP address hidden so when he surfs, nobody knows he's actually there. Again, most people may have heard the term IP address without really understanding what it is and its role in online security.

An IP address is a series of numbers which uniquely identifies a computer when it goes online. When a user sends an email to another user, for example, the communication will happen between the IP addresses of the computers used by the sender and the receiver. That means the only link we have to the rest of the online world and vice-versa is our IP.

How does an IP hider help in online security? When you use an IP changer software, you won't be exposing your IP address. You can still go online but you will be using a fake IP supplied by your software. Because this is so, any hacker out there who might be eying you as a target won't be able to let his plans prosper because he won't find a way to your computer. And it's all because have not exposed your real IP.

This is how an IP changer matters in keeping your identity and files private and if you simply don't want to take a chance with those hackers, this can prove to be, by far, the most effective online security tool you can use.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Brad_M_Smith

How to Find a Proxy Server List

The best way to stay anonymous online is via a proxy server. You may find that this happens when you are at work or school. Access to some websites may be blocked or restricted and there seems to be nothing you can do. Luckily, this isn't the case. You can bypass blocked access to a website using a proxy server.

A proxy is a server or website that routes all incoming connections to it out to their target website the user is trying to access. Instead of loading a website directly from your home computer, you connect first to a proxy website which then redirects your connection through it to your desired website that you are trying to load. There are many different kinds and configurations of proxy servers, but now that you are aware of how the work you will soon see how a proxy server can make accessing a blocked website at work possible.

Many schools or offices block specific websites (such as social networking or classified sites) and this is usually why you may have trouble accessing them. They do this usually with the goal of stopping students or employees from wasting valuable time online visiting unproductive websites. However, your school or office does not and cannot block the entire internet. Instead they block specific websites based on their website url. Therefore, you are free to access a proxy server which then redirects your connection to your desired website allowing you to access the blocked website even from work or school.

Schools and offices block websites with the goal stopping students and workers from wasting time. If you have ever found that your access to a website is blocked, through the use of a proxy server you will find that you can once again surf your favourite sites at work or school again without much trouble. Bypassing blocked access to a website with a proxy server is an easy solution no matter where you are.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Jolon_Warren

The Way to Find the Web Base proxy

Google it! >Caching proxy server

A proxy server can service requests without contacting the specified server, by retrieving content saved from a previous request, made by the same client or even other clients. This is called caching. Caching proxies keep local copies of frequently requested resources, allowing large organizations and Internet Service Providers to significantly reduce their upstream bandwidth usage and cost, while significantly increasing performance.

There are well-defined rules for caching. Some poorly-implemented caching proxies have had downsides (e.g., an inability to use user authentication). Some problems are described in RFC 3143 (Known HTTP Proxy/Caching Problems).

Web proxy

Proxies that focus on WWW traffic are called web proxies. Many web proxies attempt to block offensive web content. Other web proxies reformat web pages for a specific purpose or audience (e.g., cell phones and PDAs for persons with disabilities).

Many organizations — including schools, corporations, and countries — use proxy servers to enforce acceptable network use policies (see content-control software) or to provide security, anti-malware, and caching services. A traditional web proxy is not transparent to the client application, which must be configured to use the proxy (manually or with a configuration script). In some cases, where alternative means of connection to the Internet are available (e.g., a SOCKS server or NAT connection), the user might be able to avoid policy control by simply resetting the client configuration and bypassing the proxy. Furthermore, administration of browser configuration can be a burden for network administrators.

Access control: Some proxy servers implement a logon requirement. In large organizations, authorized users must log on to gain access to the WWW. The organization can thereby track usage to individuals.

Web Proxies such as Vtunnel and Fast web proxy became well known when Google in the UK required all Gmail users to have a @googlemail.com email address rather than the standard @gmail.com address. The web proxies were used to bypass restrictions put on and allowed UK users to have the @gmail address.

Anonymizing proxy server

A proxy server that removes identifying information from the client's requests for the purpose of anonymity is called an anonymizing proxy server or anonymizer.

Hostile proxy

Proxies can also be installed by online criminals, in order to eavesdrop upon the dataflow between the client machine and the web. All accessed pages, as well as all forms submitted, can be captured and analysed by the proxy operator. For this reason, passwords to online services (such as webmail and banking) should be changed if an unauthorized proxy is detected.

<span style="font-style: A client connects to the proxy server, requesting some service, such as a file, connection, web page, or other resource, available from a different server. The proxy server provides the resource by connecting to the specified server and requesting the service on behalf of the client.
